The "Chinese as an Additional Language" (CAL) Curriculum Project is a long-term project led by the program leaders of various ICN schools.
Initially, in 2021, Abbotsford PS, Richmond West PS and Richmond HS in Melbourne discussed shared achievement expectations for Year 6 students and designed a data transfer tool together to assist with transitioning into the Year 7 Enhanced Chinese Program.
This collaboration has since inspired other leaders in ICN schools to embark on a project together to create a "Chinese as an Additional Language" reference document that would assist bilingual and CLIL teachers around the country to use a common language for benchmarking curriculum, discussing student outcomes and co-planning shared units.
The CAL Project Team presented on the rationale and principles behind this curriculum at the 2023 ICN Conference in Canberra. A copy of the presentation can be accessed here.
ICN has since completed Version 2.0 of CAL and throughout 2024, the CAL Project Team has been busy implementing feedback from various ICN schools to develop Version 2.1.
